Occupational Therapy

Our Kinesiologist and Occupational Therapist (OT) at NFCHC provide both one-on-one appointments, as well as group programming.
These professionals will provide education and strategies with a focus on chronic disease prevention and management.

Occupational Therapy is a health profession that can help you develop or modify skills necessary to complete day-to day activities when these abilities have been hindered by injury, illness, chronic disease, mental health issues, developmental delays, learning difficulties or impacts of getting older.
Focus on how physical, mental or cognitive function affects the ability to do the things that you need to or want to.
Working with your team, OTs will assist with:
• Assessments and interventions may include activities of daily living, memory, walking and mobility, fall risk, home safety, sleep, etc.
• Maintaining or restore function and independence in daily occupations such as bathing, dressing, laundry, cleaning, chores, meal prep etc.
• Prescription of assistive devices or mobility aids
• Promoting health and prevent disability
• Sleep hygiene
• Activities or exercise to increase functional mobility
• Accessible parking permits
• Specialized transit forms (e.g. chair-a-van, NST)
• Home adaptation
Your occupational therapist will:
• Provide an initial assessment
• Determine what you may be having difficulty with in your everyday life
• Providing suggestions or helping you find strategies to implement in your day-to-day routine to make life easier and feel more independent
• Provide assessment or interventions as necessary
• Collaborate with other health professionals as appropriate
Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement, performance, and function. The practice of kinesiology involves the assessment of human movement and performance to maintain, rehabilitate or enhance movement and performance.
• Improve movement and function
• Injury assessment and treatment
• Strategies for managing joint health including arthritis
• Education and exercise support for chronic disease (diabetes, heart and lung disease etc.)
• Chronic pain management
Your kinesiologist will:
• Take a complete health history and find out your goals or objectives
• Conduct an assessment. The assessments differ based on why you are seeing a kinesiologist
• Discuss the findings of the assessment with you
• Propose a treatment plan that will meet your goals or objectives
• Collaborate with other health professionals as appropriate
• Typically a patient will be seen for 6-8 sessions, depending on their need
Call reception at 905-356-4222, you will be transferred to the phone of the Kinesiologist or Occupational Therapist. They will discuss your concerns with you, or you can leave a message with your information. The professional will assess the need and book a future appointment with you if you are eligible for the service.

Our Kinesiologist is available to everyone in the community.
Currently our OT is only seeing patients that have rostered primary care at NFCHC.
It is FREE.
All our OT and Kinesiologist services are free.
