Who can access the 2SLGBTQ+ Support Team?

Anyone in the Niagara Region can access our 2SLGBTQ+ Support Team. You do not have to live in Niagara Falls, nor do you have to be a patient of the Niagara Falls Community Health Centre. All ages are welcome.

No, you do not need parent/guardian consent to reach out. Our 2SLGBTQ+ Support Team will determine your ability to consent for yourself and is always happy to include another trusted person in your life for support, with your consent.

Is there a fee to work with the 2SLGBTQ+ Support Team or attend programs?

No, accessing our 2SLGBTQ+ Support Team and attending our programs are free and available to anyone in the region of Niagara.

What programs are available?

• Queer Youth Collective: drop-in support for 2SLGBTQ+ youth ages 10-13 and 14-18
 • Adult 2SLGBTQ+ Drop-in: drop-in for adults age 19+
 • Rainbow Kids’ Reading Club: a series focusing on books showing diversity in lived experiences. For youth ages 6-10 and their families

What to expect when you reach out to the 2SLGBTQ+ Support Team?

• They will answer you using the contact method you used to reach them, unless you have instructed otherwise. 
 • They will recommend finding a time to have a conversation about what support you need and what supports are available to you. 
 • A quick intake is required for ongoing access to programs and services. This can be completed in-person or virtually.

Does Niagara Falls Community Health Centre offer gender-affirming care?

All primary care providers at NFCHC must complete 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion training upon hiring to provide safe and competent care.

We currently have primary-care providers formally trained in providing gender-affirming care including hormone replacement therapy, assessment and referrals for surgeries.

Are the members of the 2SLGBTQ+ Support Team therapists?

Accepted Answer

No, the members of our 2SLGBTQ+ Support Team are not therapists. They can provide basic peer support, and can help with finding a safe and accessible therapist for mental health concerns.

Do you have any training opportunities for community organizations or groups that would like to learn more?

Yes, we offer Sexual and Gender Diversity training to your group, organization, business, school etc. at no cost.

This training provides a background on why sexual and gender diversity is important to address, an overview of key terms, pronouns, how to be an ally, and more!

Training can be coordinated by reaching out to the 2SLGBTQ+ Support Team
